My Approach to Therapy

I use an integrative approach of methods in my work, primarily pulling from a humanistic method. This perspective is reverent around the uniqueness of every person and relationship that I encounter, acknowledging the need for curiosity and a holistic approach. I will be listening for existential tensions, whether exposed or hidden, within your decision making. I also pull from the following therapeutic frameworks:

  • a psychodynamic approach (looking for experiences in your history that have created patterns),

  • attachment theory (how have you learned to connect with others?),

  • somatic work (utilizing EMDR and Expressive Arts to learn how your body responds to life experiences and creating more awareness around your subconscious),

  • and mindfulness (applying transcendental meditation, ACT and DBT to actively practice acceptance and self compassion).

I have been hugely influenced by the therapeutic work of Irvin Yalom, Tara Brach, David Schnarch, Tammy Nelson, Esther Perel, and John and Julie Gottman. In addition, I have also been shaped by poets, philosophers, musicians, and other artists who have spent their lives reflecting on love, life, and what it means to be human.

As we work together, I will be using experiences we have together in session to draw parallels to dynamics you have in other areas of your life. I will look at our relationship as a vehicle for change and also as a way to understand how you approach your relationships outside of the office.
